Tailwind Associates, an EOE, has a direct-hire/full-time opportunity with our client in White Plains, NY for a Lead Systems Administrator

Summary
System Administrator provides the technical skills needed to implement, support, maintain, and improve the software infrastructure. They also provide the project management skills to realize these objectives in the implemented solution. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures, business plan, functional strategies and business priorities with oversight from IT Management as well as from the IT Advisory committee. The impact of these roles ensures the business runs more efficiently, enables the improvement of business processes, and provides more information for better management decision making.
System Administrator positions within the Application Services Group administer the Authority's software Portfolio by conducting activities to support existing applications and software infrastructure as well as implement new applications and new software infrastructure. To support existing applications the System Administrator effectively manages the resolution of production issues, adheres to all IT change management and incident reporting requirements, and verifies that applications are functioning properly after any change. Additional support activities include installing upgrades and patches and, when required, analyze, design, code, and implement changes to enhance functionality or to accommodate business process changes. When an application, underlying software infrastructure, or hardware has reached the end of its lifecycle the System Administrator is tasked with identifying and implementing replacement solutions to meet business objectives. As technology and the utility business changes so must the solutions implemented to ensure client business needs.
Responsibilities
  • Instruct, direct, and check the work of other system administrators.
  • Ensure performance and reliability of business systems based on the software infrastructure platform.
  • Specific to Enterprise Administrators: various software infrastructures including application servers, web servers
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting for hardware, software, and system problems that involve software infrastructure modules.
  • Work with database administrators, portfolio teams, and developers in coordinating system-wide updates and installing upgrades and patches.
  • Provide recommendations and coordinate the direction for the implementation of enhancements or changes that may involve custom design, optional software, and third party products to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the systems.
  • Monitor and maintain performance metrics for system features, recommend and take corrective/preventative actions.
  • Lead in the design, development, and implementation of test and production objects.
  • Perform configuration, change management, and testing activities as required.
  • Consult with appropriate IT staff and users on technology changes that will impact work processes.
  • Ensure that vendor solutions meet client's standards and specifications.
  • Full technical knowledge of all phases of software implementation and support
  • Specific to Enterprise Administrators: various software infrastructures including application servers, web servers
  • Act as project leader for projects with small budgets or limited duration.
  • Manages system-wide/cross-functional teams, and provides ultimate direction for projects.
  • Provide technical consulting on complex projects. Responsible for solving highly technical and complex problems on multiple projects, and providing consultative support to internal staff.
  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities.
  • Assesse the feasibility and soundness of proposed proof of concept or solution.
  • Perform as a staff advisor and consultant.
  • Represent the Authority at technical conferences and Authority meetings.
  • Focus is on the results of the solutions rather than a specific area's analysis procedures. In some cases, these "problems" may be associated with network, hardware, security, database, programming, or application functions.
  • Recommend the lowest cost solution for developing expanded capabilities and services for customers.
  • May be called upon to give expert testimony on behalf of the Authority.
  • Provide guidance and motivation to junior members
  • Support various enterprise applications including IBM Maximo, Asset Health Center applications, AutoDesk vault, Mobile applications and other standalone applications and perfrom implementations, Solution design, patching, deployments, troubleshooting, Changr control, defect fixes, enhancements and testing as required.

  • Substantial technical expertise.
  • Diversified knowledge of Information Technology and a strong business orientation to provide technical leadership.
  • Within client, within certain disciplines, may be the highest technical expert.
  • Incumbent applies intensive and diversified knowledge of information technology principles and practices, and an understanding of the client's policies, operations, and objectives, to solve complex business problems via IT enabled solutions, and makes technical decisions on methods and obstacles.
  • Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, and policy matters.
  • Consult with Manager/Director concerning unusual problems and developments. Work is checked by others at a Senior Managerial level.
  • Ability to investigate what is not intuitive and to develop solutions to non-routine problems.
  • Ability to handle a project from start to finish, with major decisions being brought to the Manager/Director.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and platform skills to give both internal and external presentations that are logical, smooth, and influential.
  • Persuasive with strong negotiating skills are also critical.
  • Strong writing skills; written reports can include research papers, analytical studies, and solution review
  • Understanding of how client interacts with outside organizations, including other utilities and regulatory agencies, and with its customers. Additionally, must be familiar with client's budgets, costs, rate structures, and policies.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical/business discipline/equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 8 years quality experience (or a minimum of 12 years of directly related experience for non-degree holders) including at least 6 years in an applications development and support environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience within various IT disciplines
  • Hands on experience in Maximo configurations ( Application Designer, Database Configuration, System security, Application server configuration) and customization.
  • Ability to build system integrations, Web-services (REST and SOAP), Messaging Queues, HTTP, FTP. Experince in Maximo Integration Framework for interfaces with Maximo.
  • Proficiency in Application Server, LDAP, application tuning, JVM scaling/sizing, HTTP servers, Load balancing, Application deployment, Data Migration, Data Analysis, Database (Oracle/SQL Server).
Physical Requirements
  • May be subject to extreme workloads and uncompensated overtimeSenior positions
  • May be required to take trips to client facilities to address issues
  • May be required to travel overnight to client facilities
  • May be required to travel to client's hot-site as part of client's Disaster Recovery/Business Continuance Hot-Site procedures.
