Tailwind Associates, an EOE, has a full-time/direct-hire opportunity with our client in White Plains, NY for a Network Architect

Summary
Design, implement and support the communications and networking infrastructure throughout the Authority. This responsibility includes the Local and Wide Area Networking (LAN/WAN), Data Center, videoconferencing, Email, voice and voicemail, wireless and Internet access. The group also provides support for the design and implementation of operations communications systems which support SCADA, Protective Relay, control room communications and security video.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise at the highest level.
  • Major contributor to the overall design and technical vision for system infrastructure impacting all of the client.
  • Responsible for high-level network planning, design, and optimization.
  • Develop strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
  • Develop, implement and enforce corporate policies, standards and guidelines that are aligned with the company's strategic business objectives
  • Translate business requirements into network or process designs.
  • Plan and recommend network hardware, systems management software and architecture.
  • Approve and modify network design and architecture to ensure compliance.
  • Evaluate and recommend new products, maintains knowledge of emerging technologies for application to the enterprise.
  • Monitor network performance, ensures capacity planning is performed, and is proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform troubleshooting procedures and designs resolution scripts.
  • Responsible for the assessment and direction of technology to meet system requirements.
  • Determine physical system design.
  • Assess existing technology and standards for fit within information systems and logical systems design.
  • Evaluate and select from existing and emerging technologies those options best fitting business/project needs.
  • Define the technical platform and perform system-wide/cross
  • Evaluate and recommend new products, maintains knowledge of emerging technologies for application to the enterprise.

  • Coordinate efforts across Business Units, including application services, HR, Legal, IG and other groups to identify inefficiencies that will help optimize the corporate systems.
  • Act as a mentor to less senior employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • This is the highest level individual contributor role.
  • Professional knowledge of the following technologies:
  • Server Operating Systems and usage statistics, specifically Microsoft Windows Redundancy Server.

  • Redundancy Server configurations to maximize availability, reliability and performance
  • Network protocols and equipment
  • Network architecture – both wired and wireless

  • RF Communications, specifically microwave and satellite
  • E-Mail and messaging
  • Videoconferencing bridges and endpoints
  • PBX and telephony technology
  • Voice over IP communications
  • Must be comfortable operating at all levels of the organization,
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical audiences.
  • Ability to effectively balance priorities to optimize resources and exceed technical project targets.
  • Expert Knowledge of network standards and best practices found throughout both the public and private sectors.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent work experience) in a computer science or related technical or business discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years experience working in a specialized area or software (or a minimum of 15 years of directly related experience for non-degree holders including at least 12 years in a network analyst capacity).
  • Industry training and certifications directly correlating with client's infrastructure. i.e. Polycom Industry Certifications.
